When to Recertify

CTP Certification is valid for three years. A CTP must earn a total of 36 CTP continuing education credits within a three-year recertification cycle to maintain the CTP credential.

All certification cycles begin July 1 of the testing year.  Certificants who passed the exam in June of 2021 (2021A window) and January of 2022 (2021B window) will all have a cycle start date of July 1, 2021 and will be due to recertify June 30, 2024.  Any qualifying continuing education earned after the cycle start date may be claimed for recertification credit.  CTP exam preparation and passing the CTP exam does not qualify for recertification credit.

Approximately 10% of CTPs are randomly selected for audit at the end of their recertification cycle. Be sure to maintain records documenting qualified credits. Any credits that cannot be verified during the audit process will be disqualified and additional credits will have to be earned. A program agenda or letter signed and dated by the program sponsor is considered acceptable documentation in most cases. Records should be retained for two full years after the completion of each three year cycle.
